The Raining Acorns Crochet Beanie with Pattern

Winter is fast approaching and so are the preparations for it.
I crocheted this beanie for my 8 year old and it wonderfully fits her.
It was made after a lots of trial and error , but the outcome is really great.

Materials Used :

 Bulky weight yarn 
( Bulky Weight, "Sweet Tea" Organic Merino Wool Yarn) from Copper Corgi Fiber Studio
140 yards (approx.)
Gauge: 3-4 sts per inch, 10 wraps per inch

Crochet Hook 4.5 mm 

Size : to fit head size 21 inches
  
Stitch Marker. 

Stitches Used

Sl stitch - Slip Stitch

Ch – chain

3dc tog – 3 double crochet together
(Work one double crochet but pull through only 2 loops- 2 stitches on the hook,
Work another double crochet, pull through only 2 loops- 3 stitches on the hook,
Work another double crochet, pull through only 2 loops- 4 stitches on the hook,
Pull through all 4 loops)

4dc tog – 4 double crochet together
(Work one double crochet but pull through only 2 loops- 2 stitches on the hook,
Work another double crochet, pull through only 2 loops- 3 stitches on the hook,
Work another double crochet, pull through only 2 loops- 4 stitches on the hook,
Work another double crochet, pull through only 2 loops- 5 stitches on the hook,
Pull through all 5 loops)

Tips: 
There has to be  a ch2 between any 3 or 4 dc tog.
The dc tog mentioned here are ideally the bobble stitch.
       

Pattern

Begin by making a Magic Ring (here) with 3 chains



Row 1   
3 dc tog, * Ch 2, 4dc tog, repeat from * 3 more times, Ch 2, join on the top of the 3dc- tog.  (5 dc clusters)

Row 2
Sl stitch, Ch 3, 3dctog, Ch 2, 4dc tog in the 1st chain- 2 space;
*Ch 2  ( 4dc tog, Ch2, 4dc tog) in the next Ch-2 space,
repeat from * 3 more times, Ch2,
Join on the top of the 3dc tog of the previous round. (10 dc clusters)



Row 3
Sl stitch, Ch 3, 3dctog, Ch 2, 4dc tog in the 1st chain- 2 space;
*Ch2, 1 (4dctog) in the next chain-2 space, Ch 2, (4dc tog, Ch 2, 4dc tog) in the next chain-2 space;
Repeat from * across, Ch2, 1 (4dc tog) in the last Ch-2 space, Ch2,
Join on the top of the 3dc tog of the previous round. (15 dc clusters)

Row 4
Sl stitch, Ch 3, 3dctog, Ch 2, 4dc tog in the 1st chain- 2 space;
* (Ch 2, 4dc tog ) in the next 2 Ch-2 spaces, Ch 2,
(4dc tog, Ch 2, 4dc tog) in the next Ch-2 space,
Repeat from * across,
Ch 2, 4dc tog in last 2 (Ch- 2) spaces;
Join on the top of the 3dc tog of the previous round. (20 dc clusters)

Row 5
(Sl stitch, Ch 3, 3dctog) in the 1st chain- 2 space;
*Ch 2, 4dc tog in the next Ch-2 space;
Repeat from * across, Ch 2,
Join on the top of the 3dc tog of the previous round. (20 dc clusters)

Row 6
Sl stitch, Ch 3, 3dctog, Ch 2, 4dc tog in the 1st chain- 2 space;
Ch 2, 4dc tog in the next 3 (chain- 2) spaces,
Ch 2, ( 4dc tog, ch2, 4dc tog) in the next Ch- 2 space,
Repeat from * across, Ch 2 , 4 dc tog in the last 3 (chain-2) spaces, Ch 2,
Join on the top of the 3dc tog of the previous round. (25 dc clusters)

Row 7 – 11
(The number of rows can be reduced or increased depending on the height of the beanie required)

Repeat row 6

Row 12
The single crochet stitches are worked continuously without any beginning chains or joining at the end of each row
*2 sc in the ch2 space, 1 sc on top of the 4dc tog (place stitch marker in the first sc)
Repeat from * across, do not join;

Row 13 – 14
*1sc in each sc, (place stitch marker in the first sc)
Repeat from * across,
Join (only in the last row)
(14 th Row is optional depending on the height of the beanie required).
